Tudor Grange Academy Redditch is one of the first schools in this area to take part in the ‘Couch to 5K’ scheme. This scheme encourages pupils to lead an active lifestyle to promote fitness and beat obesity. The course lasted 8 weeks and pupils, who had previously taken little part in fitness challenges, succeeded in completing a 5K run.
Andy Burgess, Maths teacher at Tudor Grange Academy came up with the idea and said “I thought it would be a really good idea to get some of the students and staff to take part in something together. It has been a great success and I am so proud of everyone for completing the 5k. The fastest time, achieved by Harley Penn was 23 minutes 49 seconds. Well done to all the participants”.
The pupils were all given Couch to 5K t shirts and certificates for completing the course. Jodie Bolter, Principal, Tudor Grange Redditch said “We are immensely proud of our students and their success. For some of them running 5k was a real achievement. Students and staff showed pure determination to finish the 5k and they have all vowed to continue to run. We are looking forward to welcoming more students and staff to take part in our next session and perhaps even encourage some parents to join us!.”
Tudor Grange Academy is currently looking into a second Couch to 5K programme for the New Year and will be enlisting new recruits in the new year.
