With Christmas now only a matter of weeks away, we are turning our attention in school to the environmental impact all of the vast amount of paper and packaging which is discarded over the festive season.
Taking our inspiration from the comprehensive and effective recycling system in place in Germany, the Modern Foreign Languages department will be running a College Recycling Competition after the Christmas holidays, in which we will ask all members of the Tudor Grange community to bring their Christmas recycling in to school to be collected, weighed and then, of course, ultimately recycled. The form, and indeed the college, which collects the greatest weight of recyclable Christmas material will win valuable points for the ongoing annual College competition, as well as individual rewards and recognition for the most notable student contributors!
We hope you will be keen to support us with this by sending any or all of the following in to school in the first week back in January:
- Christmas cards – please keep hold of them once you have taken them down;
- Toy catalogues – the heavier the better! Catalogues which our students are currently leafing through to find their most wanted gifts, from Argos, Smyths Toys and Tesco for example will be a perfect boost to our recycling totals;
- Christmas TV guides;
- Newspapers and magazines used during the Christmas holiday period;
- Phone books and Yellow Pages – the 2018 editions of these are usually delivered early in the new year so please let us have your old 2017 copies to add to our totals.
Students need to bring their recycling in to school as soon as possible after the Christmas holidays and deposit it in the boxes which will be available in their form rooms. The final weigh-in will then take place on Wednesday 17th January.
We really look forward to receiving your contributions and wish you all a very happy festive season.
