Art and Design Technology lessons at TGAR expands creativity, develops thinking skills as well as gross and fine motor skills, builds self-discipline and allows students to discover fascinating ways that art and design relates to students’ everyday lives. The primary focus of the department is to broaden our students’ knowledge and understanding of the basic elements and principles of art and design, as well as allowing students to explore their own creativity, develop investigation skills and enable them to form their own opinions and ideas on a wide range of subjects or issues. As students’ progress into their GCSE’s, they will be given the opportunity to focus on one of a range of specific subjects; Fine Art, Textiles, Food and Nutrition, Graphic Products or Product Design. Each project is developed to enable students to solve genuine, relevant problems within different contexts whilst considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Students are encouraged to develop positive critiquing skills when referencing a range of different work, and learn how to use written annotations to support their projects as they develop.
For Art and Design we seek to promote pupils love of learning by allowing them to creatively explore and respond to a range of ideas, beliefs and issues. We encourage students to form their own opinions and question the opinions of others through producing imaginative, individual and interesting artwork.
