Year 9 Options Process

The Year 9 options process is the first major opportunity that students have to shape their learning to meet their preferred way of working, interests, ability and future aspirations. It is an important decision which will have consequences for the rest of their school life and later career.

There is clear evidence to show that a student’s life chances will be dramatically improved by having 8+ 9-1 grades at GCSE. Our target is for all of our students to achieve this. At Tudor Grange Academy, Redditch, we are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of Key Stage 4 courses and are confident that students can choose combinations of courses on which they are most able to succeed.

The formal start of the Options process is during the Transition Evening, before students join TGAR. As well as getting important information about our option process, this evening has also been designed to help students think about how their GCSE choices can help them in their future education and career pathways.

We hope as much as possible to allow students to select the subjects they wish. However, we are keen that all of our students succeed and so staff are consulted throughout the process. Their professional judgment and experience will help us make sure that the most suitable courses have been selected. We want to ensure that all our students are properly equipped to make these decisions and are positive about their choices. Therefore all students have an an extra options taster day to support them in their option choices and future aspirations.
